Connecting Hoboken

During the introduction of our design studio in the first year of the master was asked to convert an abandoned piece of land to form a cohousing project.

I chose the plot where the back of the building gave access to allotment gardens. A subtle entrance to the gardens had to be integrated into the design.

From the outside the design shows that both families live separately from each other in two separate volumes. Nothing is what it seems, because actually the two houses are interlaced by means of a common walkway on the first floor. A green wall and roof gardens provide the neighborhood upgrading and roof gardens make it possible for two families to enjoy in the summer on their own piece of private outdoor space.
